In the month of June 2004, Liza and I moved from Gloucester, MA to Houston, TX. We headed down the eastern coast in Liza’s little VW golf with the windows rolled down because the air conditioning had just stopped working. We had our Snapple and snacks packed, our folder of printed out map quest directions (this in the old days before we had a GPS and had to walk uphill to work both ways) and a spirit of adventure.
We broke our trip up into 4-6 hour increments, driving a little bit each day and then making sure we had time to stop and explore along the way and/or at our destination for the night. You can check out or travels below on Flickr.
One of my favorite places we stopped was actually a KOA campground in Tallahassee Florida. We had a little log cabin by a man made pond and it rained most of the time we were there.
What I loved though was that we stopped at a local CVS that had DVDs for $5 and we bought a couple for our trip. So it was not an overly adventuresome day, but it was the best to be together, to watch a movie we probably never would have seen, and were able to relax on our little porch swing overlooking the pond as the rain pitter-pattered on the roof of our little cabin. Truly relaxing and the perfect end to a day of driving.
