Intentionally Choose Something To Look Forward To

Each Tuesday I write a blog post to share with you a way to be in more intentional in your day to day.


What are you looking forward to?

My encouragement to you today is to plan for enjoyment.

When we plan for something we provide the opportunity to experience joy multiple times.  We can find excitement in the anticipation, enjoyment in the actual experience, and then contentment in the reflection.

Give this gift to yourself.

  • Perhaps it is time to plan a getaway.  You can go big, pick a Groupon Getaway and start planning and anticipating.  Put a Pinterest board together with a map and start finding adventures around your destination.  Here is one we pinned for Prince Edward Island and another for Portland, Maine. 
  • If a getaway is too much right now you can plan a get-together: have a dinner party or a game night.  We just played Whitecastle with friends, and are already anticipating playing it again a second time.  If more social time feels overwhelming plan a little time away at a spa. Andrew and I like to take a day and head to a local spa that has a pool (one can fit this in while the kids are at school).

What is it that gives you energy?  gives you peace?  a work out?  a walk? a nap?  Plan for it.

  • Sometimes I just plan to have tea at 4:00 pm.  This is something I can anticipate and enjoy.  I can put both my hands around a mug and enjoy the moment of peace in the middle of whatever kind of day it is.

Choose something and look forward to it.  Allow your choice to bring you anticipation and joy.
